In the second episode of this ITV series, Billy Connolly’s American railway adventure continues as he journeys on the jewel in the crown of America’s rail network. You too can hurtle past jaw dropping vistas of land and sea along the West Coast and Pacific Ocean as you ride the Coast Starlight route from Seattle via San Francisco down to Los Angeles. Then travel by train to Dallas across ‘Big Country’ and ‘under ‘Big Skies’.

ITINERARY
Day 1 – Fly to Seattle
Fly from the UK to Seattle for a 2-night stay.
Day 2 – At Leisure in Seattle
We include a CityPASS so that you can visit the Space Needle (Day and Night ticket), Seattle Aquarium, take an Argosy Cruises Harbour Tour, visit the Pacific Science Centre (includes IMAX), or the Woodland Park Zoo and more.
Day 3 – Board the Coast Starlight
Board the Coast Starlight mid-morning to begin your scenic journey along the Californian Coast. Overnight on board the train.
Day 4 – Coast Starlight
The daily Coast Starlight train passes through Portland, Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. Widely regarded as one of the most spectacular of all train routes, the Coast Starlight links the greatest cities on the West Coast. The scenery along the Coast Starlight route is unsurpassed. The dramatic snow-covered peaks of the Cascade Range and Mount Shasta, lush forests, fertile valleys and long stretches of Pacific Ocean shoreline provide a stunning backdrop for your journey. Arrive in San Luis Obispo late afternoon for a 3-night stay.
Day 5 – Hearst Castle, Nitt Witt Ridge and Elephant seals
Having collected a hire car on arrival in San Luis Obispo today take to the road on California State Route 1, hugging the coast through the beautiful fishing village of Morro Bay, and to the largest elephant seal rookery in the world at Piedras Blancas. Take a tour at William Randolph Hearst's famous estate, now a state historical monument, before calling at Nitt Witt Ridge, one man’s two-finger salute to architecture and town planning.
Day 6 – Pacific Coast Highway
Why not head south on the Pacific Coast Highway today towards Santa Barbara?
Day 7 – Coast Starlight
Re-join the Coast Starlight mid-afternoon for the 6 hour journey to Los Angeles for a 2-ight stay.
Day 8 – Los Angeles
A change of trains is required in Los Angeles; make the most of it with a short break in this famous city. Ask us to book a tour – a choice of Hollywood legends, celebrity homes or Disneyland - it is entirely up to you. Day 9 – Sunset Limited
This evening board the Sunset Limited train for the overnight journey to Tucson, Arizona. Settle back and see the Mexican border, south western deserts and California Mountains pass by your window.
Day 10 – Tucson, Arizona
Wake this morning in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert. A bus ride will take you to Titan Missile Museum, before returning to Tucson and your hotel for the night.
Day 11 – Texas
Board the Sunset Limited train first thing this morning to continue to El Paso arriving mid-afternoon. Rocketbuster boots are made right next door to the station, we can arrange a tour, or fitting if cowboy boots are your thing. Mexico is just across the railroad tracks, visible from the Amtrak depot.
Day 12 – Texas Eagle
After a 24 hour stop in El Paso board the Texas Eagle train to continue across Texas to Dallas. The train will stop for several hours in San Antonio during the night.
Day 13 – Colourful, Cosmopolitan Dallas
Arrive in Dallas mid-afternoon. We include a CityPASS so that you can visit the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Reunion Tower Geo-Deck plus either Dallas Zoo OR the Sixth Floor Museum and George W Bush Presidential Library & Museum OR Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden.
Day 14 – Fly Home
Spend the day in Dallas before transferring to the airport at tea time for an overnight flight back to the UK, arriving the following morning.
